Bernardo Faria: Jiu Jitsu Athlete Profile

Bernardo Faria is a highly skilled Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who trained under some of the most respected names in the sport. He learned from Ricardo Marques and Fabio Gurgel, both accomplished black belts with extensive experience in the international circuit.

Faria's training has helped him become one of the most dominant super-heavyweight champions of his generation, with victories in prestigious tournaments. In addition to his competitive achievements, Faria is also a co-founder of BJJ Fanatics, a successful online retailer specializing in grappling equipment and resources.

Biography

Bernardo Faria was born in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, in 1987. Despite his family's background in engineering and medicine, Faria's interest in martial arts was sparked by his brother's Jiu-Jitsu injury.

After trying his hand at soccer, Faria discovered his passion for BJJ at the age of 14. Under the guidance of Ricardo Marques, his first instructor, Faria quickly developed his skills and began competing at a high level.

Despite early setbacks, such as a loss in his first World Cup competition, Faria's determination led him to achieve significant success, including multiple podium finishes in major tournaments. However, his journey was not without challenges, as he faced setbacks due to injuries, including appendicitis and a torn meniscus, which temporarily interrupted his training and competition.
