He's known for training many successful athletes, including Thalison Soares, Fabricio Andrey, Brenda Larissa, Diogo Reis, and his own children, Micael and Sammi. Before becoming a jiu-jitsu instructor, Melqui worked as a police officer in Manaus.
Biography
Melqui Galvao, born in Manaus, Brazil, began his martial arts journey under his father's guidance. After exploring various martial arts, he discovered Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) in his late teens. He trained under renowned coaches and became a black belt in 2014.
Galvao's career has been intertwined with law enforcement. He served as a chief investigator and later used BJJ as a tool for therapy and self-defense training for police officers. His commitment to coaching and developing athletes led him to open his own BJJ school in 2018. In 2019, he achieved a significant milestone by having two of his students win the IBJJF Grand Slam.
